I am an artist and deeply associated with Rangoli medium in particular, since more than 40 years. Generally, traditional – geometrical Rangoli designs are made during the festive days. But I make contemporary type Rangoli pictures on different subjects with absolute realistic effect, using coloured powder only. They look very lively. I have complete mastery over making Rangoli portraits in particular. Generally, one such Rangoli painting takes around 60 hours to make in 6 ft. X 4 ft. size. The time varies according to the size of Rangoli. These Rangolies are made on hardboard or ply sheet. The dark side of such Rangolies is - it takes hours of back breaking work to make one but doesn’t take more than few seconds to wipe it off! Just we have to lift the board and all the powder comes down on the floor!
I am a senior artist and Hon. Secretary of internationally renowned Swastik Rangoli Kalakar Group, Vadodara. I have exhibited my art in more than 40 Rangoli exhibitions in Vadodara and also in other cities in India. I have had a privilege of being invited twice (in 2002 & 2003) by Asia 2000 Foundation of New Zealand (now known as AsiaNZ Foundation of New Zealand) and twice (in 2004 & 20013) by the organizations in Dubai, to showcase my Rangoli art. Thousands of visitors including the New Zealand Prime Minister then, were damn pleased to see this art.
I also make paintings in oil, acrylics, watercolours and pastels mediums and Sanskar Bharati Rangolies.
